The life of each of our elderly loved ones is a tapestry that weaves together our history and heritage, their wisdom and experience enriching the very fabric of our families and congregations. Their warmth continues to light up our lives. Engaging older ones in ways that make them feel cherished, useful, and commended for their incredible skills is very important.
At Legacy Place, we provide plenty of opportunities to help our older ones feel useful and hone the many skills and talents that they have. By engaging them with warmth and understanding, we have found that we gain much more than we give! Here are a few pictures from a recent talent show that we held for our residents.
“In the eyes of Jehovah God … the elderly are highly valued. Evidence that he keenly understands their emotional needs can be seen in his command to the people of ancient Israel: “Before gray hair you should rise up, and you must show consideration for the person of an old man, and you must be in fear of your God.”—Leviticus 19:32.
So, then, how can we “show consideration” for the elderly? Although words of wisdom may not constantly flow from their lips and their imperfections may be magnified by old age, they merit our respect. Show that you care. Accord them dignity, honor, and recognition by drawing on their insight and wisdom, especially when their life has been guided by God’s spirit and an accurate understanding of his Word.”

Though we all enjoyed sharing our skills for a fun evening at this talent show, we are privileged at Legacy Place to get to know how these older ones have used their youth, their energy, and their incredible skills in decades of ministry and staying faithful to Jehovah. Come visit us, volunteer in your free time, or better still come work with us and get to spend quality time learning from these incredible stalwarts of faith.
