An Opportunity to Give

November 3, 2024 | Raise Funds, Senior Care

Our elderly brothers and sisters are truly treasures!  Despite encountering difficulties, they remain steadfast in their faith and their life stories inspire us. They embody patience, kindness, and perseverance and remind us to trust Jehovah! To take care of them is an honor…and with your help, Legacy Place has been able to do this for almost ten years.

From time to time, Legacy Place has reached out to you to help in the care of our dear elderly ones through donations. These funds are precious and we continue to look for opportunities where your giving can be supported and increased, often at no additional cost to you. “Giving Tuesday” offers such an opportunity.

In this blog, we will share why we need donations, what Giving Tuesday is, and why we are using this campaign to raise funds for a critical special need.

Why Does Legacy Place Need Funds?

The short answer is that revenues from resident room rentals do not fully cover the expenses incurred in operation, and donations have always been necessary to fill this need and keep the doors open.

Pennsylvania has no government funding for personal care facilities; only skilled nursing homes provide subsidized care to residents who qualify financially and clinically. This means Legacy Place does not get any funding from the government.

One reason revenues from resident room rentals do not fully cover operations is that while most residents pay published rent rates, some aren’t able to. They may be longtime servants of Jehovah who do not have sufficient funds or family to help, residents who have depleted their funds while at Legacy, or special full-time servants whose modest stipend from the Branch does not cover their occupancy.

What many do not know is that even after these needy ones are helped, additional donations are needed to cover costs and maintain rents at the current level. As a result, all who donate help everyone at Legacy Place. In line with 2 Corinthians 8:14, you are contributing towards “an equalizing, your surplus at the present time might offset their need…”

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a designated day that focuses on acts of kindness and generosity. It inspires people to donate to communities that need help. It is a day set aside for acts of love and giving….all to make a positive impact.

This year, it is Tuesday, December 3.

Over the years, the “day” has moved people to support the causes and communities they care about most. Individuals, families, and organizations worldwide participate and discover new ways to give, whether through donations, acts of service, or giving support. It’s a reminder of the power we all have to do good, in our local communities and beyond.

For us as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Giving Tuesday is about seizing an opportunity to support our elderly ones who have given so much. (Luke 16:9)

Why Are We Using This Campaign to Raise Funds?

Many businesses and retailers join this initiative and offer charities a way to maximize the funding they receive. Some shopping sites, like iGive, help charities benefit from normal purchasing. When you shop through these sites, a percentage of what you spend is donated to the charity of your choice. During campaigns like Giving Tuesday, these retailers often offer Double and Triple Donations, which is a pledge to double or triple the donations generated by shopping at that time.

We appreciate when our friends purchase through these sites and the contributions provided by the retailers. All this happens at no additional cost to you!

In addition, you’ll be able to maximize your monetary giving since Legacy Place has two donors that have agreed to match all money raised during the campaign! So your $100 will provide $300 to Legacy Place!

A Special Need

This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us ensure our dear elderly ones continue to have a secure, happy, and nurturing space.

One of our most critical needs is the enhancement of our security system.  Legacy Place takes the safety and security of our residents very seriously while still respecting resident’s privacy. As the world changes around us, we want to make sure we have taken every measure to ensure the security at the home is airtight and we intend to use this opportunity to upgrade our existing security system. Our team has been in talks with several responsible vendors and the total cost is projected at $25,000.

Our Giving Tuesday campaign goal is therefore $25,000.  All donations received between November 3 and December 3 will be applied to this campaign.
