Finally, a place designed and operated to care for aging Jehovah’s Witnesses needing assistance with aspects of daily living, no longer wishing to stay in their own homes.

Legacy Place Cottages is designed to provide a caring environment for faithful servants of Jehovah—a place where they can feel safe, loved, and appreciated.

The homes allow Christian witnesses to maintain a healthy spiritual routine, engage socially with fellow witnesses, and associate with the local congregations.

The residents are accommodated in beautifully appointed households designed for their "Personal Care".

Registered as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, the homes are established on a firm scriptural basis: "Look after orphans and widows." (James 1:27) "Do not withhold good . . . if it is within your power to help." (Proverbs 3:27, 28) "Give to the one asking you, and do not turn away from one who wants to borrow from you." (Matthew 5:42) "If a brother or a sister is lacking clothing and enough food for the day . . . but you do not give them what they need for their body, of what benefit is it?" (James 2:15-17) "I became hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you received me hospitably." (Matthew 25:35)

Legacy Place Cottages in Allentown, Pennsylvania is the only not-for-profit senior care facility for Jehovah’s Witnesses in the United States. Developed by Jehovah’s Witnesses to serve Jehovah’s Witnesses, it provides a beautiful, supportive environment for our brothers and sisters that need 24/7 care. Loving physical care and activities to spiritually nourish and stimulate are provided by an experienced and caring staff. It truly is the answer for which so many have searched.

Listen to the comments of the daughter of one of our residents:
“She is doing so well at her new home, and all of us girls are so thankful to Jehovah she was accepted. She is surrounded by faithful, kind and hospitable servants of the only true God, and she finds such joy in that environment! The spiritual program on a daily basis is a tremendous encouragement to her because she is constantly concerned with a regular spiritual routine! So you see Legacy Place Cottages is the only place where Mom would be truly happy!”

Her thoughts beautifully convey the reason Legacy Place Cottages was created: we love our faithful older ones and want them to be safe and happy. Both personal care (which corresponds closely to assisted living in many states) and memory care settings are available, and each resident’s care program is customized to their needs.

If you are concerned whether a move to Legacy Place Cottages is financially possible, please call to have a confidential discussion. For those that need some assistance, a Charitable Care Fund has been established. This provision is based on need and individual circumstances. As with the creation of this unique property, such help is made possible by the generous donations of brothers and sisters who recognize their ability to help and consider it a privilege to do so.
Jah-Jireh Homes of America-Allentown is the not-for-profit entity that operates Legacy Place Cottages in Allentown. A volunteer board of directors oversees all activities and all members are Jehovah’s Witnesses. The environment was inspired by Jah-Jireh Charity Homes located in Great Britain, where loving care has been provided for over thirty years. Similar homes are located in the Czech Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Canada, South Korea and Denmark.

LETTER FROM OUR BOARD

Dear Family and Friends:

The name Jah-Jireh means “Jehovah provides” and is taken from the account at Genesis 22:11-14. Our brothers in Great Britain chose this name because they deeply felt a commitment to provide for older friends in need. It is overseen by a volunteer board of directors who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Similarly, Legacy Place Cottages is overseen by a volunteer board of directors who are Jehovah’s Witnesses thus creating an environment that provides alternatives for older ones whose families are no longer able to meet their needs and who are concerned that their loved ones’ spiritual way of life will not be honored in a facility that is not operated by Jehovah’s Witnesses.

We are excited and appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of the team entrusted with fostering the emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of the Jah-Jireh family.

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors

What is Memory Care?

Legacy Place Cottages, located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, provides both Personal Care and Memory Care environments. Our three households provide a loving and secure environment where fellow believers can share spiritual values, live by Bible principles, and remain independent as long as possible.

Like the Jah-Jireh Charity Homes of Great Britain, the main purpose of Legacy Place Cottages will always be “to provide an environment in which our brothers and sisters will feel loved, well looked after and appreciated in a theocratic home, run for their benefit.”

SPIRITUAL ENVIRONMENT

Most important of all is the support that is provided to ensure each resident has a robust spiritual environment. The “small house” model reflects the leading edge design and organizational structure that allows the fully staffed care partners to be completely engaged with the operation of the house as well as the lives of the residents. This model of care creates an intentional community that honors autonomy and privacy, as well as provide opportunities for developing close personal relationships between residents, their families, and staff. A spiritually qualified brother takes the lead in coordinating spiritual activities including daily text consideration, weekly Family Worship night, mid-week field service arrangements, and transportation to meetings and assemblies.

PERSONAL CARE

Upon admission, the staff draws up a detailed service plan which serves as the organizing document for all personal care services provided to each resident. The plan specifies the personal care services and medications that the resident needs. In addition, it contains information about the resident’s background, family, interests, hobbies, and favorite foods. Staff members use this information to get to know the resident and to effectively engage them with their abilities. There is a cottage specifically designed to provide advanced memory care.

Each resident’s care plan is reviewed after 30 days and is regularly updated from that time on—either when the staff concludes that a resident’s needs have changed, or every six months, whichever occurs first.

MAINTAIN YOUR INDEPENDENCE

Legacy Place Cottages incorporates an innovative design and an organizational structure that allow the care partners to be completely engaged with the operation of the house as well as the lives of the residents. This model of care creates an intentional community that honors autonomy and privacy as well as provide opportunities to developing close personal relationships between residents, their families and staff.

Along with a nurse, specially trained nursing assistants staff each residence and provide a wide range of support and assistance. If needed, the assistance may include personal care, activities, meal preparation and service, light housekeeping, and laundry.

COTTAGE ARCHITECTURE

Each of the three cottages are true homes, centered on a beautiful hearth that promotes a warm and inviting environment. Nearby is an open kitchen, den/library, and 10 to 12 private suites, each with its own bathroom. The small scale and single level design eliminates stairs, long hallways, and elevators. Two of the homes provide personal care; one cottage is specially designed and operated for those with severe memory impairment.

Residents have autonomy, choice, privacy, and opportunities for close relationships between the residents and staff.

Nursing professionals provide clinical support around the clock in a discrete way, allowing residents to live life according to their own terms and schedules. The 32-room home is licensed by the State of Pennsylvania and can accommodate up to 40 residents in a fully staffed environment designed to allow "Peronal Care".

Legacy Place Cottages staff will make every effort to meet the needs of each individual as well as all in the home as a group. A schedule of weekly and monthly activities is posted in an area that is accessible to all residents and is provided for each resident to post in their suite for easy reference. Private time for study, self-reflection, and meditation will also be encouraged and supported. Volunteers and family members are always welcome to join us for activities and outings.

The team is coordinated and supported by nurses and a clinical support team that includes social workers, activities experts, therapists, and nutritionists.

Legacy Place is operated by a Professional Management Company which works under the direction of the board of directors. All residences are regulated by the appropriate governmental authorities and offer the highest level of personal care and assistance, combined with the unique spiritual provisions that allow a Christian witness to maintain a healthy spiritual routine and meaningful life.

Currently, Legacy Place Cottages is looking for caring people that are qualified CNAs. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please contact us.

Aside from our trained staff, there are plenty of opportunities for brothers and sisters to volunteer their time and resources. Those that wish to volunteer their time to work with the residents must be dedicated, baptized Witnesses of Jehovah, who are in good standing in the congregation, and who have a sincere concern for elderly faithful ones.
